Why write here ?

TTRPGs have always had a specific draw to me. I remember when I was a teenager, finding out about Dungeons and Dragons , and then wanting to immediately switch over from playing wargames to rpgs. That strong desire as a teen has always followed me in the following years. It also sparked a strong love of playing board games, card games, and any other strategy-story telling games I could get my hands on. However, it was not till the last few years of playing (after a hiatus) that I turned my eye to the creation of and design of these games. This has lead me to fall down a rabbit hole of reading different authors and game designers. One after another, I read their commentaries, ideas, musings and quips. It was not till I came upon  the blog ¨Gorgon Bones¨ and his specific article on On Hobby Best Practices   that I decided to sit down and write about this.

In his article, Gorgon Bones goes on to talk about the five aspects to have the best TTRPG hobby practices. He outlines the process that was created in the late 90´s and early 2000´s  in the OSR-OSE scene. As well, he alludes to the bygone days of the AD&D communities back in the 70-80s. In particular, his article on writing and recording your hobby  was particularly eye catching.

He goes on to explain the need to be record our games and musings. These writings help us to attract others to the hobby. So with that in mind, I wanted to add my own thoughts and ideas out there into the world.

The point of this blog is to have fun and also have a good think or two about a hobby we all can enjoy. I want to use this space to talk about the different aspects of the hobby I like. As well, as a way to record game sessions and bounce ideas off other hobby nerds.  With this is mind, I know most of what I will say will not be perfect and that there will be a lot of misses in the beginning. However , that is not the point of this blog. This blog is all about having fun.

(I will say that since this is WIP, there will be editing and changes done to posts and other content. This will happen both now and in the future.)

  1. It always makes me happy to know that my blog posts have inspired someone to take up blogging themselves! It is a wonderful practice and it has made me think way more about my gaming than I have in the 20 years that I've been playing.

Just a random note - I am a guy. Not that I care particularly about the pronouns used here, but just as an FYI in the future. Cheers!

    2. No need to apologize. Like I said, I'm mostly pointing it out just for the sake of not making things confusing. I'm glad you liked the series, I do have more posts on hobby practices that I plan on writing, just can't promise when they'll be out.
